Can stress or anxiety cause tinnitus?

What happens with stress related tinnitus?
When you are subjected to long periods of stress and anxiety, such as the prolonged death of a loved one or you work in a high pressure job, a certain part of the brain stops functioning correctly. There is a part of your brain called the hypothalamus that provides vital functions in normal conditions and it stops providing these, or functions only on a limited basis, in times of stress.
The hypothalamus and related structures in the brain, such as the Pons, the pituitary fossa, the basal cisterns, the corpus callosum, the brain stem, the ventricular system all play a part in causing tinnitus. The hypothalamus and the organs in the brain it controls, are chiefly responsible for producing the essential chemicals our bodies need to function properly. The hypothalamus is often badly affected by long continued stress. If you are subjected to extended periods of stress, shock or grief, the hypothalamus and the organs it control stop producing those essential chemicals. All manner of side effects then occur, chiefly amongst these is tinnitus. It is your body’s way of warning, you I suppose. Anyway if the situation is allowed to continue unabated, your health will also decline drastically. |

So is it possible to relieve or treat stress tinnitus?
The first step would be to try and control the situations that are causing the stress or anxiety in the first place. The next phase in your recovery would start when you take steps to activate, or for want of a better word, "kick start" the hypothalamus in action once again. Often after extended periods of stress or trauma it will be functioning at a much lower than normal level. Our job is to get the hypothalamus and the organs it controls to start functioning correctly once again so it is able do start producing those chemicals and trace elements that are so vital to the correct functioning of your body. Once this occurs the "burglar alarm" you are hearing in the form of tinnitus noises will gradually start declining and your stress and anxiety levels will start reducing as well. These trace elements and chemicals are essential to how your body combats stress and anxious moments. These Are The Noises Associated With Stress Tinnitus

The hypothalamus is a primitive part of the brain situated below the third ventricle. It controls many systems in the body, including the pituitary gland, which in turn controls the endocrine organs, and the autonomic nervous system.
